The holy month of Ramadan typically sees a slowdown in new music releases—except for the songs tied to TV dramas. As a result of this, artists have extended their artistic journey beyond music, making acting an integral part of their artistic expression, as they bring characters’ joys and sorrows to life.
Every year, Ramadan shows feature a lineup of musicians—whether starring in lead roles, performing theme songs, or appearing in promotional campaigns. Over time, audiences have come to anticipate seeing their favorite artists take on new roles during this special season.
Ruby Strikes Again!
Ruby has successfully balanced two artistic careers, navigating both acting and music. She originally started as an actress before venturing into singing—a move that brought her immense success, though she stepped away from music for a while before making a strong comeback. In the world of drama, she delivered one of her most memorable Ramadan performances in Segn El-Nessa alongside Nelly Karim and a star-studded cast. Since then, she has continued to take on impactful roles, both in ensemble and solo projects. This year, after nearly a decade, fate brings her and Nelly Karim back together in the highly anticipated series Ekhwati.
Hamada Helal: On His Fifth Year in a Row
Hamada Helal has firmly established himself as a Ramadan drama favorite. For the fifth year in a row, he returns as Saber El-Maddah in El-Maddah, a series that has captivated audiences since its debut, and with its growing popularity, the show’s creators have continued expanding it. Hamada isn’t only starring in the series, but he’s also lending his voice to its soundtrack, dropping the theme song “Ala Allah” shortly after the official trailer premiered.
First-Time Actors Making Their Ramadan Show Debut
After turning heads with his acting debut in Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo, Sharmoofers’ frontman Ahmed Bahaa is making the leap to television. He joins the third season of Kamel El-Adad as Fahmy, and will also appear in El-Captain alongside Akram Hosny. But this time, he’s bringing company, as Sharmoofers bandmates are expected to make special guest appearances as themselves.
Similarly, stepping into the world of drama for the first time is the multi-talented Khaled Mokhtar—who recently made waves with his track “DKKA” —is taking on a major role in 80 Baco, where he stars with Huda El-Mufti.
Additionally, Eslam Kabonga is stepping into the world of acting this year with his debut in Ahl El-Khataya, all while contributing to the 80 Bako soundtrack with the uplifting track “El-Farha Farhtena”.
Steady Steps in Acting
Ahmed Baher, also known as Kozbara, continues to make his mark in the acting world while expanding his music career. He has joined the cast of Al-Ghawi, a drama led by Ahmed Mekky, marking Mekky’s shift from his usual comedic roles. The series also features rapper Abyusif, who makes his Ramadan debut after his successful performance in Al Layla Wa Elly Feeha with actress Zeina in 2022.
In another exciting appearance, Tamer Hashem, the drummer of Cairokee, is set to star as Hesham in Athena, a social drama centered on dark web crimes. Hashem has already proven his acting skills with several roles, including Rivo, alongside band mate, Amir Eid, and several rising stars including Sarah Abdulrahman, Sedky Skhr, and Rakeen Saad. In Athena, Tamer joins a cast of several heavy hitters including Riham Haggag, Ahmed Magdy, and Sawsan Badr.
Singers in Bel-Dam and Taht El-Ard
Farah Youssef takes on an exciting role in Taht El-Ard – Mawsim Har, starring alongside Maxim Khalil, Samer Al-Masry, and Carmen Lebbos. She will also perform the show’s theme song, which is expected to be released soon.
As for Bel Damm, it has already made a splash with its theme song “Ana Meen”, performed by Marilyne Naaman. The track, released just days ago, has quickly surpassed one million views. Marilyn also plays Hanin in the series, sharing the screen with Maguy Bou Ghosn and a stellar ensemble cast.
Contributions to Both Acting and Music
Abdulaziz Al-Shahri is making waves this Ramadan with his dual talents in both music and acting, appearing in the comedy series Horouj. Additionally, Shoujouon Al-Hajri, known for her acting and TV hosting while embracing her musical side, will be starring in ‘Wuhoosh’ alongside Bashar Al-Shatti, who recently made a strong comeback with his album ‘Bashar Al-Shatti 2024 - Sam’i Baht’, in addition to Ali Kakule, who continues to release music in both Egyptian and Khaleeji dialects after his hit “El-Nafkha El-Kaddaba’.
Lastly, Ameni Riehi is embarking on a new acting experience by playing the role of Lamis in the comedy sitcom Jiran Al-Ghafla; a show features a distinguished cast and presents humorous situations that reflect the daily lives of neighbors in a lighthearted manner.
