Iconic Eid Tracks That Define the Festive Spirit

A hush hangs over the world as the final days of Ramadan fade, replaced by eager expectation. The first morning of Eid arrives, and a familiar energy crackles through the streets. As you step out into the world, the festive energy is almost tangible. Streets teem with laughter, children dash about in new clothes, and the air is alive with the melodies of songs that have become synonymous with this joyous occasion.

From Egypt to Saudi Arabia and beyond, the first morning of celebration is woven with a familiar soundtrack.  Decades have passed, yet certain songs remain timeless. Let's dive into a few of these iconic tracks, and the stories that make them so special.


1. El Eid Hal Hilalah - Mahmoud Alkuwaiti (1960) - Kuwait 

Mahmoud Al-Kuwaiti, also known as Abu Mansour, was a prominent Kuwaiti musician, singer, and composer who contributed significantly to the development of Kuwaiti music. He was renowned for his mastery of various musical instruments, including the oud and violin, as well as his distinctive vocal style. He recorded his first record in Mumbai, India back in 1929. while his most famous song "El Eid Hal Hilalah" is cherished by Kuwaitis and you will often hear it echo the streets of Kuwait during Eid celebrations and other festive occasions. Essentially it was not made as a Eid track, but it was a celebratory track after a group of artists and singers returned to signing on the radio with support from Kuwait's Minister of Media, but by then it was known as a Eid favorite in Kuwait. 


2. Ahlan Bil Eid - Safa'a Abu El Saud (1982) - Egypt 

Safaa Abu El Saud was a renowned Egyptian singer known for her powerful and evocative vocal delivery. She gained popularity for her ability to convey the emotions and sentiments of her songs with authenticity and passion.Her iconic "Ahlan Bil Eid" which was released in 1982, has become a beloved staple in Egyptian music, frequently played and sung during Eid celebrations and other festive occasions throughout the country. The song's uplifting melody, catchy rhythm, and spirited lyrics evoke feelings of happiness, togetherness, and celebration among listeners.


3. Min Al Aydeen - Mohammed Abdo (1971) - Saudi Arabia 

Mohammed Abdo, also known as "The Artist of the Arabs," is one of the most prominent and influential singers in the Arab world. Born in Saudi Arabia, he is celebrated for his powerful voice and emotive delivery. Released in 1971, ‘Min Al Aydeen’ is a nostalgic ode to the past, reflecting on cherished memories and longing for days gone by. The Eid jingle is characterized by its poignant lyrics, evocative melody, and Abdo's soulful interpretation. The song resonates with listeners, striking a chord with those who yearn for the simplicity and innocence of bygone days.

 

4. Ya Leilet El Eid - Umm Kulthum (1939) - Egypt 

Umm Kulthum, also known as "The Voice of Egypt" and "Egypt's Fourth Pyramid" needs no introduction. The Egyptian singer has achieved legendary status through her memorable live performances and extraordinary vocal abilities. On the night of Eid in 1944, Umm Kulthum took to the stage to sing her song "Ya Leilet El Eid" (Oh, Eid Night). She was surprised to see the king enter the event, so she sang the song in celebration of his presence and Eid together. She even added this verse to the song: "May Farouk live and celebrate with us on Eid nights." This led King Farouk to bestow upon her the Order of Perfection, which was only granted to princesses of the royal family. Umm Kulthum was then given the title "Sahebet Al Osma" (Owner of the Power), a title reserved for those who receive the Order of Perfection.
