XP Day

FRI | 05:00 PM - 05:45 PM

ARENA

Since the 1932 congress standardized the Arabic scaling system, it has been said we’ve lost microtones in our music. But there are certain artists who continue to try to innovate beyond standardized Western scales. In this educational session we will learn about the implications of this standardization, the 19th century musicians who were left out of the debate and the history of the Arabic microtonal system, while contextualizing it in the present contemporary music landscape. We hear from artists' who's passion to maintain this historic and important musical feature continues to play an integral part in music for years to come.
